We need to remember what it means to be an American.
America is a "melting pot." We were all taught that in school. The Statue of Liberty is engraved with an invitation that is heard across the planet and people respond because they believe us, they believe in the promise that is the United States of America. How is it then, that when the poor, the tired and the homeless show up at our doorstep with their families, our response is to separate them from each other, lock them in cages and wait until they die? This is not only inhumane, it's unAmerican. Fear and racism are at the root of this type of national policy and, as your Representative, I will not stand for it. We need a complete overhaul of our Border Patrol and Enforcement System, including dismantling ICE, and I would vote to end cruel family separations and deportations until we can fix these practices and remember what it means to be an American.
